What is Cellulite?

What is Cellulite and am I stuck with it?

Cellulite is that unsightly dimpled skin that appears on various body parts for no apparent reason.

It commonly appears on the thighs, buttocks, abdomen, hips, and upper arms. Just about everybody has Cellulite at one point in their life — which is obviously a complete downer if you’re trying to avoid it.

But at Ziba, we love Cellulite. It’s our aim to help you and your body. So we love it in a good way!

Cellulite can cause you to panic!

But hold your horses.

Cellulite is a natural, fatty substance that can develop in the human body. It is most common in the buttocks and legs, but it can also occur in other body parts.

Cellulite is a regular occurrence in many adults.

However, it is more common in adolescents and usually lessens with age.

Some people may notice Cellulite when they are young adults, while others may not see it until adolescence or later.

There has been much discussion about what causes Cellulite and why it affects some people more than others, with little agreement among medical professionals about these causes.

At Ziba, we have both female and male clients. All with one goal. To reduce their appearance of Cellulite.

Fat cells press against the skin, causing Cellulite

Generally, Cellulite occurs when fat cells underneath the skin press up against the skin, which causes a dimpled appearance.

This is mainly due to collagen fibres stretched and attached in a crisscross pattern under the skin.

When you gain weight, these bands of connective tissue pull down on the skin while fat cells grow and press up against it, causing it to pucker into a dimpled pattern.

In other words, Cellulite occurs when fat cells protrude into those bands of connective tissue.

For men, collagen fibres around their bodies run vertically instead of horizontally like women’s bodies do, so men have less Cellulite than women.

However, there are some cases where men experience more dimpling than others because they have thick horizontal fibres that run across their thighs and buttocks (similar to women).

At Ziba, we have both female and male clients. All with one goal. To reduce their appearance of Cellulite.

Health risks from Cellulite are rare

Cellulite is neither a disease nor does it depend on weight.

Cellulite does not pose a health risk, and it also does not indicate that you are unhealthy or have poor blood circulation or lymphatic drainage.

It’s just a cosmetic condition with which many people feel unsatisfied and worry about invasive treatments.

The mental anxiety it causes can lead to unhappiness, and we never want that.

And we can help.

Cellulite may not be reduced by exercising alone

Eating a healthy diet and maintaining a healthy weight will also improve the appearance of Cellulite.

Exercise by itself may not be an effective strategy for reducing Cellulite.

However, exercise can help you lose weight and maintain a healthy weight, making Cellulite appear less severe.

Additionally, exercise increases blood flow to fat cells in the body.

While this doesn’t necessarily decrease the number of fat cells in your tissue or reduce the appearance of Cellulite, it can reduce inflammation and pain that is associated with cellulite formation.

Exercise also helps you maintain a healthy diet and control your calorie intake better than if you were not exercising regularly.

A regular exercise routine will also improve energy levels and keep your body fit while helping to prevent the development of other health problems like diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure.

Muscle-building doesn’t get rid of cellulite

But they can reduce its appearance‌ ‌by‌ ‌making‌ ‌your‌ ‌skin‌ ‌appear‌ ‌firmer‌ ‌and smoother.

Muscle-building exercises won’t reduce Cellulite, but they may make it less noticeable by making your skin appear firmer and smoother.

Although there aren’t any specific muscle-building exercises that can rid you of Cellulite, the more consistent and varied you are with muscle-building exercises, the better results you’ll get when it comes to Cellulite.

Work with a trainer to determine what kinds of muscle-building activities work best for you based on your age, body type, and health history.

Depending on your goals and current physical abilities, some examples of muscle-building exercises could include:

Weight training or strength training.

  • Yoga

  • Dance classes that incorporate moves like pliés (a ballet move involving bending at the knees)

  • Hiking up steep terrain using trekking poles

Eating a well-balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables can help improve your overall health.

Cellulite is nothing to worry about

But there are some things you can do to help improve your appearance.

Cellulite is an entirely normal condition. In fact, it’s so common that it’s considered one of the most normal non-disease conditions in the world.

Therefore, it doesn’t represent any underlying health problems, and having Cellulite does not mean you can’t be healthy or fit.

In light of this, here are some things you may consider to help improve the appearance of Cellulite:

Diet

Eating a well-balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables can help improve your overall health.  Some peole think that losing weight may help reduce cellulite, but there’s no substantial evidence to support this.

Excercising Regularly

Strengh training excercises can help you tone muscles and increase blood flow in affected areas.

  • Try squats, lunges, leg lifts, and core strengthening exercises like planks as part of a regular routine to keep your skin elasticity up and circulation flowing (and keep yourself healthy).

  • The more toned the muscles are underneath, the less visible Cellulite will be on top!
